Kyky Flow is the stage name — the nickname — under which I sign my creations in Dominican Spanish. It's not a casual choice: Dominican is a language within a language, a Spanish that has absorbed Africanisms, Taíno words and Caribbean influences in a wholly peculiar way, with a slang that sets it clearly apart from Cuban, Puerto Rican or Colombian Spanish.
In the Caribbean every island has its own Spanish, its own rhythm, its own words invented on the spot and later becoming collective heritage. Dominican Spanish, in particular, has a speed and musicality all its own: it swallows syllables, invents diminutives and augmentatives, transforms the meaning of words with an ease that only someone who truly lives there can keep up with.
Kyky Flow was born in that world, with that language, with that spirit: light, ironic, capable of saying serious things with a laugh.

Arabesque is the term I use to describe this language: it sounds like Arabic, it has its rhythm and musicality, but it isn't Arabic. A sonic ornament, an imaginary language that evokes the East without belonging to it.
