I Giganti della Montagna (The Mountain Giants)
Luigi Pirandello
🎬 Director: Franco Melotti 📍 Year: 1979 🎭 Author: Luigi Pirandello

It was professor Franco Melotti, the talent scout, who insisted on having Alessandro in the production. That's where it all began: this script represents his first real encounter with theatre.

I Giganti della Montagna (The Mountain Giants) is Luigi Pirandello's final work, left unfinished at his death in 1936. A poetic, visionary fable, it tells of the encounter between a troupe of wandering actors — led by the actress Ilse — and the mysterious inhabitants of a villa at the foot of the mountain, where reality and dream blur together. A work that questions the very meaning of art and theatre: can poetry survive in a world hostile to beauty? A young Alessandro Moschini made his debut in it in 1979, marking the start of a long journey on stage.

Alessandro Moschini took part in this demanding project by the Ente Teatrale Trentino, the sixth installment in the The Battle of Ideas series. The cast included: Tommaso Lonardi, Aldo Minandri, Alessandro Moschini, Pinara Pavanini, Gianluigi Pizzetti, and Giuseppe Violante.

L'Istruttoria (The Investigation, 1965) is the most celebrated work by Peter Weiss, a German playwright who emigrated to Sweden. Built entirely on material from the Frankfurt trials (1963–1965) against the Nazi war criminals of the Auschwitz camp, the play draws on the investigation's transcripts and stages them in dramatic form, like a secular oratorio. Witnesses, defendants, and judges speak in spare, anonymous verse: what remains are only numbers, voices, facts. The version staged as part of The Battle of Ideas is an abridged selection, roughly a third of the original, supplemented with original documents on Nazi and Fascist policy — making explicit the idea that the camps were not a moment of degenerate madness, but the mirror of a political project that was ideologically grounded and economically and socially sustained.
