Financial statement analysis: key business performance indicators
Reading a balance sheet the way a doctor reads blood tests is the common thread of this book in the «Corso di contabilità» (Accounting Course) series. You start from the layouts of the Italian statutory financial statements, reclassify the balance sheet and the income statement, and step by step reach the final report and the treatment, following a single example company. The book is written in Italian and follows Italian rules.

Throughout the book you follow a single imaginary company, Rossi Arredi, which makes and sells furniture: you start from its official financial statements and arrive, step by step, at the diagnosis. Each chapter has a summary, the course slides, the text and the exercises; every figure quoted is written on the page, so you can redo the calculations yourself. The framework is Italian; the companies in the cases are fictional.
The book accompanies the video course «L'analisi di bilancio: i principali indicatori delle performance aziendali». You do not need to have taken the course: the book stands on its own.
Business owners, professionals, administrative and sales staff, students and investors: anyone who wants to understand how a company is really doing. No accounting knowledge is required. At the end you will not just have a list of formulas but a method: reclassify before calculating, read the ratios together and not one at a time, turn a table of numbers into the story of a company.
Alessandro Moschini worked for 39 years as a chartered accountant (member of the Trento professional register) and has always combined advice to businesses with training: postgraduate courses, programmes for people starting a business, sessions for established companies.
The book is a study and working tool; it does not replace professional advice on a specific case.
Business owners, professionals, administrative and sales staff, students and investors who want to understand how a company is really doing by reading its financial statements, without getting lost in technical jargon.
No. The book starts from the basics and explains every term; a calculator or a spreadsheet is handy to redo the examples.
